Toledo to Host the 2nd Energy Communities Summit in September

  • There are already 679 energy communities in Spain, and Toledo is home to one of the best examples: the "Historic Center of Toledo Energy Community."

Toledo, July 16, 2025. The Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF), in collaboration with the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, is organizing the 2nd Energy Communities Summit. This event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 24, at the "El Greco" Conference Center in Toledo, aims to establish itself as the leading meeting forum for the sector.

This summit will serve as a platform for dialogue, featuring key panel discussions covering topics such as the role of energy communities in the energy transition, political perspectives on these innovative structures, and the different models of energy communities that can be implemented in Spain—bringing not only technical value but also social benefits.

The second edition follows the success of the first summit, from which emerged the Manifesto in Support of Energy Communities and Energy Self-Sufficiency. The manifesto was created with the goal of fostering alliances among all energy communities, working together in a coordinated manner to defend their interests and strengthen their development.

Energy communities are made up of partners or members who join forces to harness renewable resources or carry out energy-related activities, ensuring that the resulting environmental and socio-economic benefits are reinvested in the local community or area where the project is based.

According to ECODES, there are already 679 energy communities in Spain. Toledo is home to one of the most outstanding examples: the first energy community established in a historic center, which includes private citizens, businesses, convents, and even the Toledo City Council. This community delivers environmental, economic, and social benefits to its members through the clean energy it generates using photovoltaic technology, while reinvesting profits into the local community itself.

This and other examples will be discussed at the 2nd Energy Communities Summit in Toledo, along with other key topics of interest for those involved in their development, such as regulation, governance, and administrative procedures.
